The purpose of this post is to help you understand how to check if you are enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry. You may have been selling on Amazon for some time or find yourself in a new role at a brand or manufacturer and it may be unclear if your products sold on Amazon are brand registered. Brand Registry offers many merchandising, brand protection, advertising, and reporting tools. It is important to know if your products are brand registered, and enroll your brand in Brand Registry if you find you are not. Using the Brand Registry tools will help you sell more products, make better decisions using Brand Registry data, and provide a better shopping experience for your Amazon customers. We will discuss a few methods to better answer your question of “Am I Brand Registered?” including checking the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) website for an active status, attempting to enroll in Brand Registry, and checking areas on Amazon to see if Brand Registry is connected to your Seller Central account.
Check USPTO for Live and Active Status
A simple step is to first understand if you have the requirements to enroll your brand in Amazon Brand Registry. If you do not have all the requirements for Amazon Brand registry, you likely will not have been able to register. One of the major requirements for Brand Registry is ensuring you have a pending or registered text or image-based trademark in the country where you wish to enroll. You’ll need to provide the trademark registration number that was provided by the Intellectual Property office. For the United States, this would be a registration with the USPTO, which can be found by searching the trademark office. If you cannot find your brand’s registration, you likely do not have Brand Registry and will need to register your trademark. If you do have an active registration, the next step to see is if you have shared that information with Amazon through the Brand Registry enrollment process.
Attempt to Enroll in Brand Registry
The next step to check if you are enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry is to attempt to enroll. For this step you will need to navigate to the Brand Registry enrollment portal and go through the steps to enroll your brand. If you try to log in to the brand services portal and it states you have a registered brand, then you are all set. However, if you do not have a log-in account and if you attempt to register and the brand name and it’s already registered, you will receive a notice that states “Brand is already registered”.
Error Code 5665 When Adding Product to Amazon
If you are listing your product on the Amazon catalog and you receive an error message that states “Error Code 5665”, this is an indication that you may not be brand registered. This code states that you are trying to add a text field in the brand name section that is not associated with your brand. However, you may actually have Brand Registry but you may not have the correct connection at an ASIN level or account level. We have written extensively about checking this connection of Amazon Seller Central account and Brand Registry.
Check Amazon Merchandising Areas
There are areas on the Amazon store that you can check to see if your Amazon listings are brand registered. Amazon Brand registry allows sellers to utilize merchandising opportunities that are not granted to non-brand registered sellers including A+, storefront, and Sponsored Brand Advertising.
Amazon A+ Listings - Amazon A+ is an image-rich area of the product listing that allows sellers to include modules that tell more details about the product, share answers to questions customers may have, and tell the brand story of the seller. Navigate to a product listing and see if the listing includes the image-rich A+ section titled “From the Brand”, “From the Manufacturer”, or “Product Description” with images. If there is A+ content, then the product and Brand is Brand Registered.
Amazon Storefront - Storefront is a merchandising tool provided to sellers that lets sellers create pages with modules for Amazon customers to browse and see an entire collection. Every product listing includes a link under the title that can link to the storefront. If a brand is brand registered, that states “Visit the [BRAND NAME] store” and the link brings you to the storefront page, the brand is enrolled in Brand Registry. If the link includes text that states “Brand: [Brand Name]”, this shows that the listing does not have an associated store. It does not mean that it is not brand registered, but it could be an indication it is not.
Sponsored Brand Ad - Sponsored Brand ads are advertising options available only to Brand Registered sellers. This ad type helps customers discover your brand and can include a creative custom image, video, and headline options. If you are currently running Sponsored Brand Ads, you are brand registered.
