Amazon Image Requirements

Amazon Product Detail Pages Image Requirements

Your product detail page is crucial for making a strong first impression. The first image shoppers see on your listing is called the main image. The main image must be a photo (not a drawing) and it must have a pure white background. Your main image also appears as the thumbnail on the Amazon search results pages. After your main image, you should use a combination of lifestyle images, instructional images, detailed close-ups, and infographics to educate shoppers. Using a variety of images on your listing increases the likelihood of engaging with customers, enhances product understanding, increases perceived value, and helps build confidence in your product.

Main Image Requirements

  • Must have a pure white background

  • Must be professional photographs of the actual product (graphics, illustrations, mockups, or placeholders are not allowed)

  • Must not show excluded accessories or props that might confuse the customer

  • Must not include text, logos, borders, color blocks, watermarks, or other graphics over the top of a product or in the background

  • Must not include multiple views of a single product

  • Must show the entire product that is for sale

  • Must show products outside of their packaging. Boxes, bags, or cases should not appear in the image unless they are an important product feature

  • Must not show a human model that is sitting, kneeling, leaning or lying down

  • Multi-pack apparel items and accessories must be photographed flat

  • Clothing accessories must not show any part of a mannequin

  • Women’s and Men’s clothing must show the product on a human model

  • Kids & Baby clothing must be photographed flat (off-model)

  • Shoes must show a single shoe, facing left at a 45-degree angle

All Product Detail Page Images

  • Accurately represent the product that is for sale

  • Must match the product title.

  • Product must fill at least 85% of the image.

  • The optimal zoom experience for detail pages requires files to be 1600px or larger on the longest side

  • Must not exceed 10,000px on the longest side.

  • Must be JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg), TIFF (.tif), PNG(.png), or GIF (.gif) file formats. JPEG is preferred

  • Must not be blurry, pixelated, or have jagged edges.

  • Must not contain nudity or be sexually suggestive. Leotards, underwear, and swimwear for kids and baby must not be shown on a human model.

  • Must not include any Amazon logos or trademarks, or variations, modifications or anything confusingly similar to Amazon's logos and trademarks. This includes, but is not limited to, any words or logos with the terms AMAZON, PRIME, ALEXA, or the Amazon Smile design.

  • Must not include any badges used on Amazon, or variations, modifications or anything confusingly similar to such badges

Complying with these image requirements will help ensure your listings remain active and discoverable for Amazon shoppers. If your main image doesn’t meet the requirements, the image could be removed and your listing could be suppressed. Listings that are missing a main image won’t appear on search results pages until an approved main image is displayed. It’s recommended to upload at least 6 images to your listings. Lifestyle images show the product being used in real-life scenarios to help demonstrate unique features and benefits. Infographics are useful for showcasing complex details in a visually appealing and easy-to-understand format. Close-up shots give customers a better understanding of specific product features or components. You should use a combination of images that are clear, informative, and engaging.

Amazon A+ Enhanced Brand Content Image Requirements

Effective A+ content enables sellers to communicate their brand's values, educate customers, and increase sales and brand loyalty on Amazon. Your A+ content should create an immersive shopping experience that captures shoppers’ attention and drives conversions. It caters to different types of shoppers by offering versatile and easy-to-navigate layouts. It can also encourage better customer reviews and feedback by providing detailed product descriptions. Shoppers who are using a computer are shown A+ content after the bullet points on the listing. However, shoppers on the Amazon mobile app are shown A+ content before the bullet point information. There are a variety of A+ modules that use images and each unique module has unique image requirements. Here is a list of each module with the number of images that can be used and the respective aspect ratio required:

  • Standard Company Logo - Uses 1 image - Image file: 600 x 180px

  • Standard Comparison Chart - Uses a minimum of 2 images and a maximum of 6 images - Image file: 150 x 300px

Before designing your A+, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with the different module options to ensure you’re using the best format for your products and branding. Use A+ images to highlight key selling points and benefits of your product. Showcasing unique features, functionality, or a value proposition can help differentiate your listing from competitors and attract customer attention. You should maintain brand consistency across your A+ images. This means using the same color schemes, fonts, and overall design elements used in other infographics and lifestyle images. This helps reinforce brand recognition and builds trust among customers.

Amazon Storefront Image Requirements

Your Amazon Storefront is a unique landing page that allows you to present only your products without distractions from your competitors. A professional-looking Storefront can help increase brand visibility, boost product sales, and create customer loyalty. Your Storefront sets your brand apart from competitors by providing a unique and appealing customer experience. Additionally, an Amazon Storefront provides an enhanced mobile shopping experience, introduces your brand to new audiences, and promotes all your products to existing customers.

Similar to A+ Content images, there’s a variety of different modules you can use to build your Amazon Storefront and each has its own image requirements. Here is a list of each module that uses an image and the unique image requirements:

Header Module

  • Image must be at least 3,000 x 600 pixels

  • The way the header image resizes on smaller devices can lead to legibility issues. This is why we recommend uploading a separate image for mobile. The image needs to have the same dimensions as the desktop image. Please keep in mind the following guidelines:

    • Limit the maximum number of products to be used to three.

    • If using a logo in this image, it should be legible on mobile.

    • If there’s text in the header, it must be fewer than 30 characters.

    • If using text, try to use a maximum of 2 lines of text and at least 90pt font size (Arial Regular for reference).

    • Avoid using disclaimers, and for consistency, in the desktop version as well.

Image Module

  • Desktop Width must be at least 1,500 px. Tip: 3,000 px is best for a high-resolution display on all devices.

  • Mobile Image must be at least 1,680 pixels wide and between 20 - 3,000 pixels in height.

Image w/ Text Module

  • For both Desktop and Mobile - Width must be at least 1,500 px.

  • 3,000 px is best for a high-resolution display on all devices.

Shoppable Image Module

  • For both Desktop and Mobile - Image size: 3000 x 1500 px or larger

  • File size: 5 MB or smaller

  • File format: PNG, JPG, or static GIF (transparent PNG works best)

Product Collection Module

  • Desktop

    • Image size: 1920 x 640 px or larger

    • Image ratio: 3:1

    • File size: 5 MB or smaller

    • File format: PNG, JPG, or static GIF (transparent PNG works best)

  • Mobile

    • Image size: 1920 x 1920 px or larger

    • Image ratio: 1:1

    • File size: 5 MB or smaller

    • File format: PNG, JPG, or static GIF (transparent PNG works best)

Gallery Module

  • For both desktop and mobile, the Gallery module allows you to upload between 3 to 8 images

  • Images must be 1500 x 750px

Split Section Modules

  • These modules allows you to use a variety of images that range in size including:

    • 1500x1500px

    • 1500x750px

    • 750x750px

It’s important to review both the desktop and mobile previews to prevent cropping that may obscure important image elements. Avoid using dull images and instead use eye-catching, high-quality images that showcase your products in real-life situations. Your lifestyle images should add personality, evoke emotions, and connect with the target audience. Only your brand’s products are featured in your Storefront and you want to take advantage of this great opportunity. Similar to your A+ Content, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with the different Storefront modules and maintain brand consistency across your images

Amazon Photography Image Requirements

Amazon Posts Image Requirements

Amazon Posts is a free tool available to brand registered sellers. They are designed to enhance brand awareness and customer engagement by allowing shoppers to discover new products and see what’s new from brands. This image-based browsing experience encourages shoppers to interact with your products and brand. Through captivating images, you can showcase your brand story, brand values, and product usage.

There aren’t many specification requirements listed for Posts image submissions. Here are the image requirements according to the Posts image guidelines:

  • The image size must be 640 x 320px or larger

  • The aspect ratio must be between 9:16 and 16:9

  • The file format must be JPG or PNG

  • The color format must be RGB

  • Your image can include a short slogan or tagline but it cannot contain the following:

    • An individual brand logo or a combination of logos

    • Crowded, excessive, poorly cropped or illegible elements

    • A Call To Action such as “Buy Now”

Outside of these requirements, here are some helpful suggestions for creating Posts that deliver the most aesthetically pleasing experience. You should use compelling images that represent your products or brand in context or a lifestyle setting. This is a great opportunity to highlight the value of your products. Showing products in real-life context can help inspire customers. You should avoid using images with plain, white backgrounds. Posts with white backgrounds are likely to receive limited impressions because they don’t meet Amazon’s quality bar. A majority of customers viewing Posts are doing so on a mobile device. It’s recommended to use a square or vertical aspect ratio (1:1, 4:5, 9:16) to provide the best experience on a mobile device. Simple images are easier for customers to understand and are preferred over image collages or crowded images. A simple image won’t distract from showcasing your product. To ensure your brand appears credible, avoid common issues such as blurring, stretching, or unnecessary space around your images.

Amazon Ads Image Requirements

Appealing images play a crucial role in capturing the attention of potential customers and driving engagement in Amazon Ads. Showcasing your products or brand in a contextual and relatable setting, you increase the likelihood of capturing shoppers' attention and enticing them to make a purchase. Compelling visuals that represent your products or brand help elevate the impact of your advertising campaigns. Lifestyle images allow you to effectively leverage visual content to drive customer engagement, increase conversions, and achieve your advertising goals. According to Amazon internal data from September 2020 - February 2021, campaigns that use a custom image in Sponsored Brands ads on mobile see over a 40% higher click-through rate compared to those that use only products. This means the better images you have, the more sales you will generate and will keep the cost of acquiring customers lower.

There are 2 Advertising Campaign types that allow you to use your product-in-use images: Sponsored Brand and Sponsored Display.
